The Chief Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Bamidele Omole, has declared candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Osun State governorship election, Rauf Aregbesola, as winner of the poll.
Omole said while announcing the result in Osogbo on Sunday that, “Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scoring the highest numbers of votes, Rauf Aregbesola of the APC is therefore returned elected.”
Aregbesola, also the incumbent governor of the state, defeated the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyiola Omisore, to emerge the governor-elect.
According to the result announced by INEC in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2014, the governor polled a total of 203,090 votes, while his closet rival, Omisore, raked a total of 120,433 votes. The results were collated from 30 local government areas of Osun State in which Aregbesola won in 22.
Also, candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the August 9 poll, Fatai Akinbade, got 18,135 votes to be placed in third position.
