Ahead of the 2015 general elections in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has created additional 30,027 polling units across the country.
According to INEC, the move is to solve decongestion problems in the existing polling centres in the country.
The Commission, in a statement issued on Tuesday by one of its directors, Ishiaku Gali, disclosed that Lagos has the lion share in the new addition. INEC said more 11,023 poling units were given to Lagos, while Kano got 10,127.
With the new development, Nigeria now has 150,000 from the former 119,973 units.
Gali said the decision to create additional poling centres was made at the Commission’s meeting held on August 12, 2014.
