Fire Engulfs Lagos Market

A plank market in Lagos was gutted by fire on Monday, destroying properties worth several millions of naira in the process.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday at the Abule-Egba plank market in Lagos..

Going by what some shop owners in the market told our reporter, the inferno was caused by a power surge.

Parts of the properties consumed by the fire included building materials, planks, vehicles and shops at the market.

Officials of the state fire service were prompt in bringing the situation under control.

It was learnt that more than two scores of shops were touched by the inferno, while no life was lost or injured.

The Abule-Egba plank market fire makes it three of such happenings in three months.
