Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, held a meeting with his Cameroonian counterpart, Lieutenant General Meka Rene Claude, on Wednesday to discuss ways of tackling terrorism at the borders of the two West African neighbour-countries.
The meeting was held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Ideas and modalities on areas of cooperation between the two Armed Forces were exchanged between the two Service Chiefs.
On its website, the Defence Headquarters disclosed that Badeh pointed out that “in the interest of mutual national security of both nations, their Armed Forces’ needed to forge ahead together in order to harness available areas of cooperation for the protection of their people.”
In addition, Badeh noted that there is need for a “regular joint military training exercises”, which “would be beneficial to both countries as it would avail them the opportunity to learn from each other, thereby improving their capabilities and relationship.
On his part, Claude noted that the collaboration between the two countries should be a “continuous process, since both countries have many areas of commonality.”
After the meeting on Wednesday, a coordinating conference on Nigeria-Cameroun trans-border military operations at the Defence Intelligence Agency was inaugurated.
