Akwa-Ibom Assembly Wants New Stadium Named After Akpabio

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has requested that the newly built stadium in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State be named after the state governor, Godswill Akapbio. The Assembly, at its plenary on Thursday, passed a resolution calling for the naming of the new stadium after Akpabio.

The lawmakers lauded Akpabio for erecting a masterpiece in the state, suggesting that naming the stadium after the governor was a way of immortalising the man that brought glory to the state.

At the plenary, the Assembly said the new stadium would boost tourism in the state.

Speaking at the session, the House committee on Sport, Efefiong Antigha, described the new stadium as the 8th wonder of the world and urged youths to shun violence and restiveness and take to sports which the state government has provided the needed facility through completion of the stadium.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker, Udo Kierian Akpan, commended the Assembly for appropriating the required funds for the completion of the stadium project.

On his part, Speaker of the Assembly said the new stadium is the best in Africa which should be appreciated and celebrated maintaining that the Governor has left foot prints on the sand of time by the numerous life touching projects he has completed in the last seven and half years.
