A possible breakdown of law and order was prevented in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos on Sunday afternoon when a man believed to be a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, was allegedly shot dead by suspected thugs of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The deceased, Sikiru Ogboye, reportedly died after he was shot by the hoodlums at the distribution of Permanent Voters’ Card, PVC, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the area.
Late Ogboye was said to be monitoring the exercise as a PDP agent at Oriledu in Ibeju Lekki, when some thugs attacked him and murdered him.
“An electoral agent of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State has been shot dead, Sunday afternoon, while monitoring the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC).
“Mr. Sikiru Ogboye, a PDP Agent, was shot dead, allegedly on the orders of a chieftain of the All People’s Congress (APC) by suspected thugs, while he monitored the PVC Distribution exercise,” the Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organisation said in a statement issued after the incident.
The group condemned the killing, describing it as unfortunate. It called on the police to look into the matter and bring the culprits to book.
Aprko247 gathered that some aggrieved supporters of the PDP had planned a reprisal, but for the prompt intervention of policemen from Ajiwe Police Station that saved the situation from becoming a free-for-all.
However, some persons were arrested by the security operatives drafted to the scene to maintain law and order.
