President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, unveiled the new N100 note to mark Nigeria’s 100 years of amalgamation.
The new banknote was presented to the President by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefile
At the ceremony, Jonathan urged Nigerians to show respect for the country’s currencies.
The new note retained the portrait of Obafemi Awolowo in the old note, while some security features were embedded in the new banknote to make it difficult for it to be duplicated.
Revealing some of its features, Jonathan’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, explained that the new N100 note has a QR Code that can be check using smart phones. Also, the QR Code was incorporated into note to make it digital and store significant information that highlights Nigeria’s journey in the past 100 years.
Abati said the new note will be in circulation from Wednesday, November 19, 2014.
