Nigeria’s senior national football team defeated Congo 2-0 on Saturday evening in a 2015 AFCON qualifying match played at the Stade Municipal in Pointe-Noire, Congo.
Ikechukwu Uche, who was making his way back to the Super Eagles, put Nigeria ahead from the spot.
Aaron Samuel scored the second goal for the Eagles at about the 83rd minutes of the match, which angered the home fans.
Seconds after Nigeria’s second goal, the Congolese fans left the stadium and threw objects on the pitch. The match was halted for some minutes by the referee before it was recalled.
The teams played the last minutes of the match in an empty stadium.
The win has shot Nigeria to second on the table with four points behind leaders, South Africa, which has 11 points from five games.
Nigeria plays South Africa on Wednesday in the last match, while Congo will slug it out with Sudan same day.
The 2015 AFCON will be played in Equatorial Guinea in January. The hosting right was taken away from Morocco, after the country expressed fears over outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.
Hope alive.
