Reports reaching Aproko247 confirm the heavy presence of security operatives at the National Assembly, NASS, complex in Abuja ahead of the sitting of members of the lower chamber of NASS. This has created tension around the lawmakers’ arena, Aproko247 learnt.
Watertight security has been mounted at the complex and all entrances into the building locked except one. Lawmakers are being reportedly screened before gaining access into the Assembly complex.
Our correspondent gathered that those who were not allowed into the complex were sent away by the security forces.
Members of the House of Representatives are sitting today, Thursday, November 20, 2014 to deliberate on the request of President Goodluck Jonathan to extend emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
Jonathan is seeking to extend the rule for a third time since he imposed emergency on the states in May 2013. He wrote NASS for approval and members of the upper chamber have started deliberations on it already.
This would be the first sitting of the House since its Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal adjourned sitting on October 28, 2014, to December, after he announced his defection from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, which infuriated his former party.
