Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, at an event in Ogun State on Tuesday, revealed how he was diagnosed of cancer in late 2013.
Soyinka, speaking at a press conference at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, explained that in December 2013, he was told that he had cancer and pondered on the issue before taking a decision on it.
The renowned playwright said he first thought the cancer was just a normal thing, but later resolved to treat it before degenerating into something drastic in his body.
His son, Olaokun Soyinka, who is the Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, disclosed that the 80-year-old man was treated for prostate cancer.
Soyinka attributed his ability to live with the cancer healthily to early detection and nutrition, while advocating for awareness and preventative measures in stopping the spread of the ‘deadly’ disease.
