No fewer than two female suicide bombers in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Tuesday, killed more than 30 persons at a crowded market in the city.
The incident also left several others injured.
The girls, who entered the market wearing full hijab, a clothing material worn by female Muslims, detonated the bombs, killing some people in the busy market.
It was learnt that the first lady detonated her bomb, which killed about three persons, and the second girl, who joined sympathisers at the scene of the first blast, blew up her explosives, which claimed about 30 sympathisers.
No group has yet claimed reposibility for the blast, but it is believed that the suicide bombers may have belonged to the deadly Boko Haram sect in the north. The group has carried similar attacks in the past and has killed thousands of persons in the region.
