Jimi Agbaje has emerged winner of the governorship primaries of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State. Agbaje, a former member of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, defeated his closest rival, Musiliu Obanikoro at the primaries.
He polled 432 votes as against the 346 garnered by Obanikoro.
Agbaje joined the PDP barely four months ago. It was rumoured that Agbaje, a pharmacist, had the backing of PDP leaders in the state.
At the primaries, which was marred by violence, other aspirants like Tokunbo Kamson, Babatunde Gbadamosi and Adedeji Doherty scored 46, 21 and 21 votes respectively.
It was earlier believed that Obanikoro would fly the party’s flag at the 2015 election. He was considered to be well experienced in governance than Agbaje.
Obanikoro has worked as a council chairman, a Minister and an Ambassador.
