President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has submitted, to the Senate, the names of seven people he hopes to make ministers if given the go ahead by the lawmaker as stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.
A controversial former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, who lost the Lagos State governorship slot of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to Jimi Agbaje, is one of those Jonathan considers for a ministerial job.
Obanikoro resigned from Jonathan’s cabinet as Minister in October 2014 to pursue his gubernatorial ambition before he lost at the PDP’s controversial governorship primary in Lagos.
The former Minister had challenged the outcome of the exercise and even took the matter to court before he was prevailed upon by the President to take the matter out of court and support the party’s candidate for the poll.
The PDP is working hard to take Lagos away from the grip of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Apart from Obanikoro, also on the list are Patricia Akwashiki and Kenneth Kobani.
Jonathan hopes that the Senate, under the leadership of its president, David Mark, will approve the nominees.
