The Inspector General of Police, Suleman Abba, has stressed that the Force will not tolerate any act of disloyalty and breach of discipline from its officers.
The police chief, in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Force spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, disclosed that the Police High Command is committed to paying special attention to the welfare of its men.
Abba was reacting to media reports that some police officers were planning a showdown over unpaid salaries.
“It is pertinent to state that, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force is mindful of its responsibility towards the welfare of the workforce; part of which is promotion and recognition of hard work,” the statement said.
It further stated that, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigeria Police Force is working assiduously with relevant government departments and agencies to effect the payment of the promotion arrears.
“Meanwhile, all promoted officers have since January 2015 been enjoying the salaries attendant on their new ranks.”
The Police IG reminded the officers that the “Nigeria Police Force is founded on the bedrock of discipline and loyalty,” noting that, “The Police Regulation has provided enough windows for aggrieved officers to ventilate their grievances.”
Abba expressed shocked that the, “officers have to recourse to unapproved channels to air their perceived grievances.”
He warned them “of the dire consequences of breaching extant rules and regulations,” charging them to work together with the Force to “ensure a safe and secured nation.”
