Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have apprehended a young man, who allegedly duped a British woman to the tune of £54,000 after they met on a popular social media platform, Facebook.
The suspect, Obiechina Chikeluba, 21, is said to be a student of Federal Science and Technology, Yaba, Lagos and reportedly swindled Kieran Oakes.
Chikeluba and Oakes were said to have met in 2013 and the suspect, used a profile of an American named Lisa Jackson, entered into a relationship with Oakes, with the pair agreeing to get married.
“In the course of their relationship, ‘Jackson’ at various times collected money to the tune of £54,000 from Oakes, to enable him travel to the UK to meet her.
“After an endless wait for her fiancé, it dawned on the Briton that she had been conned, and consequently petitioned the EFCC,” a statement by EFCC disclosed.
However, Chikeluba ran out of luck when he was nabbed by EFCC in Lagos on February 24, 2015 while attempting to collect a parcel sent to him.
According to the anti-money laundering agency, the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
