Wema Bank Appoints New Directors

Four new directors have been appointed into the Board of Directors of Wema Bank Plc, a statement by the financial institution has disclosed.

The new appointees are Babatunde Kasali, Wole Akinleye, Mrs Folake Sanu and Mrs Abolanle Matel-Okoh.

While Kasali and Matel-Okoh were appointed as non-executive directors, Sanu and Akinleye were fixed as executive directors. This now brings to 14 directors on the board of Wema Bank.

Managing Director of the Bank, Segun Oloketuyi, in a statement, expressed confidence that the four appointments would bring quality representation to the board, stressing that it would support the management in its drive to build upon its recent achievements while positioning itself for further growth.

Until his appointment, Akinyele, with over 20 years of cognate banking experience, was responsible for co-ordinating business development activities in the Lagos Region of Wema Bank.

He has a work experience cutting across all major areas of banking operations, including retail banking, corporate banking and risk management.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

On the part of Sanu, she is an astute finance professional and banker of repute with over 32 years working experience in banking, professional accounting and auditing.

Her experience spans corporate strategy, financial control, operations, technology, risk management, audit, mergers and acquisitions, credit and marketing.

Prior to joining Wema Bank, she was chief financial officer and later, chief compliance officer of Sterling Bank, where she was instrumental to the successful merger of five different banks to form Sterling Bank plc.

Sanu also anchored the integration and service reengineering process of the newly formed bank’s operational platform. She left Sterling Bank to establish JFSC Consulting, now Averti Professional Managers, after a successful merger of four consulting firms in October 2013.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FICAN) and an honorary senior member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Sanu is an alumnus of the London Business School and have attended various management courses in reputable institutions, including Harvard Business School and INSEAD, France.

For Kasali, he is a consummate professional with over three decades of experience in audit, risk management and compliance.

He was until his appointment the managing director of the Resolution and Restructuring Company Limited – a subsidiary of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Matel-Okoh is an attorney with over 20 years of experience in Nigeria and the United States of America, USA, and also a member of the Nigerian Bar and the New York State Appellate Division, Third Department Bar.

With experience in diverse areas of judicial science encompassing legal research, investigation, and adjudication, among others, Matel-Okoh started her career in United Commercial Bank as a legal officer in 1992.

Over the next 20 years, she gained relevant experience in legal practice and real estate business in various firms based in Nigeria and the US.

A law graduate of the Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye, Matel-Okoh holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and is also a licensed real estate agent from the Weichert Real Estate School, New Jersey, USA. She is the current CEO of Havilah Ventures Limited.
