Osun Workers Protest Over Unpaid Salaries

Some members of the civil service in Osun State demonstrated against an alleged failure of the state government to pay their backlog salaries. The workers, in the protest held on Tuesday, said the Rauf Aregbesola-led administration has failed to pay their salaries for five months.

The protest was led by Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in the state, Olatunji Akinyemi. They marched through the Osogbo/Gbongan Road chanting various anti-government songs and demanded for the immediate payment of their outstanding salaries.

The angry workers also said the state government has refused to remit pension deducted from their previous salaries to various retirement savings accounts.

According to some of the employees of the state civil service, Aregbesola has been busy using the Osun State resources on campaigns of the All Progressives Congress, APC, leaving them (workers) to suffer untold hardship.

The protesting workers further said the state government should be ready for a showdown if their demands are not quickly met.

Some of them also protested the alleged failure of the government to approve the promotion of the civil service personnel.

They urged the state government to look into the matter raised by them in the demonstration.
