The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has rubbished a supposedly leaked letter addressed to the Commission by the Presidency seeking to investigate the finances of some chieftains of the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
On Friday, some media platforms (excluding Aproko247) published the ‘leaked letter, which showed that President Goodluck Jonathan ordered his Chief of Staff to direct the EFCC to probe the finances of some top members of APC.
Few of those in the said letter include Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Aminu Tambuwal.
But in a statement issued on Friday, EFCC described the purported letter as “forged”, urging “the public to discountenance the said letter” because it is “intended to mislead the people.”
“The features of the letter are markedly different from that on a genuine letter from the office of the Chief of Staff to the president,” the Commission explained.
The anti-money laundering body then reproduced a copy of an authentic letter from the agency alongside the ‘fake’ one.
