President Goodluck Jonathan has given portfolio to Senator Musiliu Obanikoro. The former federal lawmaker was screened last week alongside seven others by the Senate for their appointments as Ministers under Jonathan’s administration.
Obanikoro, whose approval by the Senate was kicked against by some Nigerians, including the three senators from his state, Lagos, was announced by the President as Minister of State 2 for Foreign Affairs.
He was inaugurated by Jonathan shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, in Abuja.
It was explained that Obanikoro will be in charge of African Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also, Senator Patricia Akwashiki was inaugurated as the Minister of Information.
Obanikoro resigned in 2014 as Minister of State for Defence to pursue his governorship dream in Lagos, but lost his party’s ticket to Jimi Agbaje.
