Shagari's Family Debunks Death Rumour

The family of former Nigeria’s civilian President, Shehu Shagari, has reacted to a death rumour trailing the 90-year-old man, who recently celebrated his birthday.

On Sunday, there were rumours that the ex-president was dead.

But in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon by the Shehu Shagari Foundation, it was pointed out that Shehu Shagari is alive and not dead as being speculated in some quarters.

“This is to inform the general public on the rumour circulating that Alhaji Shehu Shagari, GCFR has died. It is nothing but what it is, a rumour,” the statement said.

“The elder statesman is well and alive in Sokoto,” it added.

“Nigerians should continue to pray for the old man for the time he still has left,” the family urged, noting that, “He spent all his useful years in the service of our dear country.”

“For updates on Alhaji Shehu Shagari please follow his Tweeter handle @Alhshehushagari,” the statement concluded.

Shagari was overthrown in 1983 by the Muhammadu Buhari government through a coup.
