Earlier on Thursday, it was reported in a section of the media that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, ordered the freezing of bank accounts belonging to controversial Catholic priest, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka.
However, the anti-money laundering agency has refuted the reports, urging “journalists to endeavour to cross check their facts with the Commission to avoid turning their organisations into instruments of public misinformation.”
Reacting to the media reports on Thursday, Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, described the reports as untruth and “should be discountenanced.”
Uwajaren also said the Commission does not have the directive to arrest the Enugu-based cleric as the reports claimed.
Mbaka publicly criticised President Goodluck Jonathan after he had earlier reportedly endorsed him for re-election in 2015.
