Elections will not hold in seven out of 11 federal constituencies in Jigawa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced.
Briefing newsmen on Friday night at a press conference held at the INEC headquarters in Dutse, the state capital, Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of the state, Halliru Aliyu Tambawal, said the shift in polls in the affected constituencies was because of a short-fall of sensitive materials, including ballot papers and results sheets from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
Tambuwal said election will only take place in four federal constituencies in Jigawa State; which are Babura/Garki, Birnin Kudu /Buji, Birniwa/ Guri/Kirikasamma and Kazaure/Roni/Gwiwa/’Yankwashi.
According to him, election will not hold in Dutse/Kiyawa, Ringim/ Taura, HadeJia/Kafin Hausa/Auyo, Jugun Miga, Gumel/Maigatari/Sule tankarkar/ Gagarawa, Kaugama/Malam-madori and Gwaram federal constituencies.
He, however, said that presidential and senatorial elections will hold as slated in all the 27 local government areas in the state as the commission received both sensitive and non sensitive material for the election.
