Some unidentified gunmen have killed not less than nine people in Gombe State. The victims were feared dead on Saturday by the insurgents believed to be members of Boko Haram.
Among them was a member of Gombe State House of Assembly, Umar Aminu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, representing Dukku South Constituency.
The terrorists attacked Dukku and Nafada local government areas of the state. They had initially attacked Shole, Birin Bolewa and Birin Fulani towns of Nafada before heading to Dukku.
They struck while voters were waiting to be accredited for the March 28 presidential election. The situation caused panic in the communities as voters ran for safety.
However, prompt intervention from security officers stabilised the situation.
Police spokesman in Gombe State, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that investigation have been launched into the incident.
