Following speculations that Radio Nigeria, a broadcast station owned by the Nigerian government, has been announcing results of the presidential elections of some states, the management of the media organisation has debunked such.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ladan Salihu, it was “categorically” disclosed that the “information is false, dubious and totally untrue.”
“As a credible and responsible broadcast organization, Radio Nigeria will only announce result declared by the competent authority vested with such responsibility, that is INEC,” a part of the statement reads.
Salihu concluded that “all the Zonal and FM stations across the country” are reminded of their duties to “ensure strict compliance with the subsisting directive on political coverage in line with guidelines of political coverage by the electoral act of INEC and the NBC code.”
