Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dr Ade Abolurin, has started preparations for the Saturday, April 11, 2015 governoship and state houses of assembly elections across the country.
Abolurin ordered his men to restratigise towards the Saturday’s polls, urging the electorates to be vigilant in order to fish out those that are out to ferment trouble.
Appreciating his personnel for their professional display at the March 28 presidential election, Abolurin reminded the Civil Defence officers of the necessity for a peaceful, free and fair polls in the country.
He urged his men to see themselves as agent and vanguard of peace based on their orientation and contributions through the various town hall meetings and stakeholders programme organized by the Corps at different fora for the purpose of peaceful conduct of the elections as well as the co-existence of the nation.
Abolurin charged the Zonal Commanders and State Commandants to ensure the effective deployment of personnel to all nooks and crannies of the country by replicating and doubling their efforts in providing adequate security at the forthcoming governorship and House of Assembly polls and also at places identified as black spots, collating centers, INEC offices as well as other designated centers that are likely to be prone to attack.
He called for the positioning of sniffer dogs and surveillance vehicles for efficient monitoring of the electoral activities and to work in synergy with other stake holders.
To the electorates, he assures them of peaceful conduct of the election without hitches and urged them to turn out en mass to exercise their civic right by casting their votes for candidate of their choice as well as report all suspicious characters to the Corps formation across the federation and to other security agencies.
In the same vein, he advised parents to caution their wards to desist from being used as political thugs by those seeking for power at all cost.
Abolurin pledges the Corps’ commitment to a violence free election before, during and after the exercise in order to have a successful and peaceful transition programme.
