Nigeria’s outgoing President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has urged the international communities to support the incoming administration of Muhammadu Buhari.
Jonathan, speaking separately on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja when he received the new ambassadors of Ethiopia, France and Senegal, said just as the world leaders threw their weights behind his government, he expects them to do more for the President-elect.
The President specifically lauded the support the French President, Francois Hollande, gave him especially in fighting terrorism in Nigeria.
He told the new French ambassador, Denis Guaer, that Hollande was even in the country to celebrate Nigeria’s centenary in 2014.
To the new ambassadors of Ethiopia and Senegal, Samia Zekaria Gutu and Baboucar Sambe respectively, Jonathan said he expects their countries to work in hand with Buhari because, “Since I assumed duty, I have been involved in quelling political crisis in some African countries and I know what they passed through and what some are still going through. If you scuttle a system for personal ambition, it becomes a collective tragedy.”
The three new ambassadors assured the President of their support for Nigeria and the next administration.
