The United States of America, USA, Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, has commended the Nigeria Police Force for its role in the peaceful conduct of the recently-concluded general elections in the country.
Entwistle, speaking during a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Monday, April 20, 2015, said the Force displayed a high level of professionalism during the polls, which produced former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, as the president-elect.
The Ambassador said he visited Abba just to “say thank you”.
He enjoined the Police to continue to play its part in ensuring peace remains in Nigeria, noting that the US will continue to support Nigeria when the need arises.
Responding, Abba told his guest that the Force was able to carry out its constitutional function because it was given the free hand to operate.
In his words, “What we did was a deliberate effort in ensuring we have secure and credible elections in Nigeria. Officers were given clear directives to be civil, nonpartisan and impartial.”
