Buhari Vows To Probe Missing NNPC’s $20b

President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has promised to revisit the missing $20 billion former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanusi Lamido, said was missing sometimes ago, which pitched him against President Goodluck Jonathan.

After Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano, disclosed that that money was missing, he was fired by Jonathan.

The $20 billion made from oil revenue was not remitted into the federation account, but the Jonathan’s government failed to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Buhari, while receiving delegates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from Adamawa State on Sunday in Abuja, lamented that the money is too much to ignore and stressed that it must be investigated.

He said his government will ensure corruption in the country is heavily dealt with.

“I heard that some people have started returning money; I will not believe it until I go and see for myself. Imagine a situation where the former CBN governor, who raised an issue of missing billions of money, not in Naira but in Dollars, $20 billion.

“What happened, instead of investigating to know whether it was true that the money was missing or not, they simply found a reason to remove him. So these are the issues we are talking about,” Buhari said at the meeting.
