According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, not less than seven persons died when a pedestrian bridge in Kano caved in on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Dorayi quarters of the state.
According to the Kano State Police Command spokesman, ASP Magaji Majiya, in an interview with NAN, the ugly scenario happened around 4:45 pm, when the bridge, which was still under construction, collapsed on a car, which was passing underneath it.
“The workers at the site had warned motorists not to pass because they were working on the bridge but the driver of the taxi allegedly ignored the warning.
“So, the moment he moved; before he passed, the bridge caved in and collapsed on the vehicle, which led to the death of seven persons,” he told the news agency.
Majiya said the police had commenced investigation into the cause of the incident, while the corpses of the victims have been taken to the mortuary.
