Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has been appointed as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Obi’s appointment was announced on Monday in a statement by the presidency.
According to the statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the President, Reuben Abati, it was also disclosed that Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mounir Haliru Gwarzo as the Director-General of SEC.
Gwarzo has been the DG of SEC in an acting capacity after the tenure of the Commission’s former boss, Arunma Oteh, ended in 2014.
These appointments are coming barely four weeks to the expiration of Jonathan’s administration on May 29, 2015.
He lost his bid to get a re-election in the March 28, 2015 presidential poll to Muhammadu Buhari.
Last week, the President sacked the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba and appointed Solomon Arase as the acting IGP.
In 2014, shortly he left office as governor, Obi defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
