The Enugu State House of Assembly, on Monday, started proceedings to impeach the state governor, Sullivan Chime.

The lawmakers accused Chime of forging the N12 billion 2012 Supplementary Budget.

Fourteen members of the House, including the Speaker, Eugene Odo, signed the impeachment notice at the plenary held in the early hours of Monday and directed the Clerk of the House, Christopher Chukwurah, to immediately serve the notice on Chime.

It was gathered that the Deputy Speaker, Chime Oji; the Deputy House Leader, John Kevin Ukwuta; and Emeka Ogbuabor were suspended at the sitting for alleged anti-House activities.

The governor and the House have been at loggerheads recently over the lawmakers’ refusal to approve a loan of N11 billion he (Chime) asked for.
