A Supreme Court judgement on Thursday morning directed the National Assembly to put a halt to its plan to amend the 1999 Constitution.
President Goodluck Jonathan had taken the National Assembly to court to challenge its decision to change some parts of the Constitution, arguing that the legislative arm of government was attempting to clip the executive.
A seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court, which was led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, ordered the National Assembly to maintain status quo on the matter until June 18.
