PDP Denies Pushing David Mark Senate Presidency

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has played down speculations that it is lobbying members of the Senate to elect Senate President, David Mark, for the same position again when elections into principal offices in the red chamber are held in some days’ time.

Rising from its National Working Committee meeting on Thursday, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, disclosed that the PDP is not contesting the post of the Senate President with the All Progressives Congress, APC, which now controls majority in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

Metuh said members of the Senate are old enough to choose who they want as their leader, saying further that they will elect who they want to lead them on whatever criteria they consider.

The APC has been having headache over who becomes the Senate President among its experienced members, with Bukola Saraki being tipped to lead the Senate. Observers have also said David Mark still has a chance of retaining the seat, despite belonging to the opposition.

His leadership style has been hailed by many political watchers and he has distinguished himself as a good leader with the way he has handle tough situations in the Senate since he assumed the position.
