Following the abduction of a Catholic Priest in Ekiti State on Tuesday, the state governor, Ayodele Fayose, has offered to give N2 million to anyone that provides useful information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
Fayose, in a broadcast, expressed worry over the rise in kidnapping in the state. The governor disclosed that he has already met with the Police and the Department of State Security, DSS, to discuss the matter.
“We have plans to rid the state of kidnappers, I have spoken with the police and the SSS to be proactive in getting the kidnapped father released,” Fayose said.
He assured residents of the state of safety of their lives and properties. He also urged them not to read political meanings to the issue.
“The issue of kidnap goes beyond political matters, everyone irrespective of party affiliations should team up with the government to deal with the kidnapping menace in the state,” he said
On Tuesday, Rev Fr Emmanuel Akingbade was abducted in his home by some gunmen, who later asked for N20 million for his freedom.
