A demonstration was held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, by some teachers in the state.
The protest was organised due to the inability of the state government to pay them their salaries for some months.
The teachers, majorly from primary schools in the state, expressed their displeasure over the inconsistency in the payment of their salaries since 2013.
They claimed that Governor Idris Wada has failed to listen to them and said this was why they had to carry placards to register their anger.
According to the demonstrators, the state government has also not paid their leave allowances for four years.
But despite the protest being peaceful, policemen drafted to venue of the demonstration fired tear gas at the teachers.
