Prince Tonye Princewill, son of the Kalabari monarch and Rivers State Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the last governorship election in Rivers State, took a time out of his busy schedules to visit the secondary school he attended many years ago.

The philanthropist turned politician was at the Federal Government College, Rumuokoro, recently, where he interacted with members of staff, students and Principal of the school.

Princewill finished from FGC Port Harcourt in 1985 and he was one of the best and well-behaved students during his time.

His visit, as Aproko247 gathered, was actually based on a request by his class of 85’s desire to see and hear first-hand the challenges and needs of their Alma Mater. This magazine further gathered that Princewill and his colleagues plan a mega 30 year reunion for December 2015 under the theme ‘Coming back home to do good.’

On his arrival, the Petroleum Engineering graduate was taken on a tour of the school facilities by the Principal and some management staff.

The four-hour and detailed tour exposed his to most of the needs of the school; from huge unpaid electricity bills to an inaccessible e-library, insufficient classroom furniture and internal roads that are in deplorable states.

More of the problems noticed by Princewill were poor drainage system, extremely dilapidated infrastructure, snake friendly elephant grass that could do with landscaping and a few thousand students who would appreciate and benefit immensely from genuine mentoring.

In his comments, Princewill commended a Federal Government Initiative called STEP B for some of their critical intervention projects and urged them to please do more.

He assured the Principal and staff of the school to take their challenges back to his mates so as to solve their problems.

After the tour, Princewill interacted with some of the students in their classes and was quite impressed with their level of exposure and intelligence in spite of the challenges.

In her reaction, the Principal, Mrs Onyeama, thanked Princewill and his team for the visit, and promised to continue to do her best to maintain the glory and standard of the school.
