Nigeria’s Super Falcons was knocked out of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada by their US counterpart on Tuesday night.
The Falcons only needed a win to scale through to the round of 16, having drawn their first match and lost their second game in Group D to Sweden and Australia respectively.
But the Americans dashed the hopes of the Nigerians of going further in the competition.
The African champions were defeated by a lone goal scored in the 44th minute by Wambach.
Nnodim received a second yellow card 69 minutes into the game, which earned her a red. Nigeria finished the rest of the match with 10 players.
