Ex-Militants Write Buhari Over Unpaid ‘Salaries’

Former leaders of militants in the nine states of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have sent a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari concerning the amnesty deal that is reportedly meant to end in December 2015.

In the letter dated Thursday, July 9, 2015 and made available to newsmen on Friday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the aggrieved ex-militant leaders also pointed out the suffering and disgraceful plight of Amnesty beneficiaries in Europe, America and other parts of the world.

The group, led by one Pastor Reuben Wilson, fondly called General Pastor, urged the President to look keenly look into the issues raised and work towards alleviating their pains.

“The worst part of their situation is the unpredictability of when their nightmare will end while hunger and deprivation has put them in a very bad state of mind.

“Your Excellency, you will recall that this programme had within the last few years brought relative stability to our region and by extension this country. This we owe to the late President Yar’Adua who in his wisdom proclaimed Amnesty for ex-agitators and drew a plan of action towards ensuring lasting peace in the region through various training programmes,” a part of the letter read.

It was further pointed out in the letter that before now, series of complaints and prayers have been sent to the President on the matter without any response.
