Dangote’s Driver Jailed

A driver with one of the companies owned by billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, has been thrown into jail by a court.

The convict, Ahmed Sani, was arraigned before a Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mobile Court for driving recklessly and dangerously. He will spend three months in jail with hard labour.

Sani works with Dangote Cement Company as truck driver. Sani was among the traffic offenders arrested by the FRSC few days ago on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

According to what the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone 2, Assistant Corps Marshall (ACM) Nseobong Akpabio told Daily Trust, Sani was flagged by FRSC team after being sighted driving recklessly, but all efforts made to effect arrest failed as the driver continued in his reckless and dangerous driving.

Akpabio said, “Reinforcement was made until the driver was tactically arrested and was immediately arranged before a mobile Court sitting at Oluyole, Oyo State along the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway on the count charges of dangerous driving, operating a vehicle without number plate, failure to stop when asked to do so by Law Enforcement Officers and driving without driver’s license.”

Another Dangote Cement Company truck driver, one Musa Umar was also arraigned before the court for driving a truck with registration number RMG 29 XA, fully loaded with cement, dangerously on the highway and without a valid driving license.

Though convicted, Umar only got a fine of N60,000 while his truck remain impounded after pleading guilty and promising to drive responsibly henceforth.

Akpabio who expressed optimism that the arrests and convictions will serve as deterrent to others, said the FRSC will continue to do all within its strength to make Nigerian roads safer.

Dangote truck drivers have been accused of driving recklessly and dangerously on the highways. Some of them have caused the deaths of several Nigerians due to their reckless driving. There have been allegations of rituals tied to these deaths.
