On Thursday, the Nigerian Senate approved the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for a $75m World Bank loan for Edo State.
Majority of the lawmakers in the upper chamber of the National Assembly gave their nods to the President’s request despite opposition from some quarters against granting the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, the authority to access the loan.
The Senate gave the approval after looking into a report submitted by the Senator Kabiru Gaya-led ad-hoc committee which worked on the loan request.
A Senator of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Edo South, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, had urged his colleagues to reject the request, but his voice was not laudable enough to quell the others.
