Men of the Nigeria Police have been directed to henceforth arrest anyone found inciting violence in any part of the country.
A statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Force spokesperson, Bisi Kolawole, disclosed that this order came from the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, following “recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafran, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in some parts of the country.”
Kolawole explained that the “operational order empowers the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation.”
It was further disclosed that so far, four persons have been nabbed in Anambra State, six in Imo State, 11 in Delta State and one person in Abia State.
“The IGP further warns that all persons so arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would be charged to court accordingly,” the statement said.
