The popularity of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State appears to be nose-diving by the day and his ability to produce a successor may be jeopardized with the recent happenings in the Pacesetters state.
Sources told First Weekly that many loyalists of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who worked for Ajimobi’s second term victory, have started deserting him based on his inability to constitute a formidable executive council, which according to them, was the reason the people of the state languish in abject poverty.
Gist merchants also added that many other factors, which include the decision of the state government to stop sponsoring WASSCE fees of secondary school students, stop sponsoring people on holy pilgrimage and the excesses of YES –O cadets, who arrest motorists indiscriminately on the highway in a bid to generate funds for the government are among the offences of the governor.
It was however gathered that the entire workers in the state were bitter and are not in good terms with the governor for withdrawing the busses that convey them to and fro their office on a daily basis.
Ajimobi was said to have complained that the workers in the state voted for his opponents in the last governorship election and that they did not support his administration.
Although the busses have started conveying the workers, majority of them have threatened to work hard and ensure that the APC dies naturally in the state.
We also gathered that 70 per cent of the former cabinet members of Ajimobi have started romancing other parties.
One of them, who spoke with us under condition of anonymity, stated that they could not afford to be jobless for long and that the governor did not need to canvass for people’s votes again, which was the reason he is behaving the way he likes.
“You can see that the Governor does not need anybody, so he chose to behave the way he likes, infact no one even dares move close to him or call him on the phone, he only send text messages to whoever he wants to see,” said a source.
It was also gathered that journalists are being maltreated by the Governor as he has instructed his security to maltreat and stop newspaper correspondents from having gaining access into the government house and this is one of the reasons only journalists from state-owned media houses cover his activities apart from some private media houses, which are being paid for their services.
