A bloody shootout between men of the Department of State Security, DSS, and suspected oil vandals in Lagos on Wednesday, which lasted several hours, left no fewer than eight of the security officials dead.
It was gathered that the DSS officials had stormed Konu area of Arepo after NNPC reportedly informed the agency of activities of vandals at the facility there.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the vandals, who became were informed that the DSS men were on their way to the area to arrest them, laid ambush on them, killing nine of them in the process and injuring several others.
Arepo is known to be a hub of vandals and their activities have claimed several lives in the past due to pipeline explosions.
Meanwhile, authorities of the DSS are yet to speak on the incident.
