Two children from the same parents were burnt alive in a petrol station fire incident that occurred on Wednesday in Osogbo, Osun State.
It was said that the fire, which happened at Bovas Petrol Station, located in front of Osogbo Grammar School, was caused by a refrigerator.
The victims’ mother was also said to have suffered burns while trying to rescue her three children, but only one could make it alive.
The filling station is reportedly owned by father of the victims. They were reportedly inside a mini market attached to the petrol station when the fire started.
Eyewitnesses claimed fire fighters were late to the scene, which allegedly caused the human casualty recorded.
But Director of Fire Service in Osun State, Michael Ogundipe, who spoke with journalists at the scene of the fire said, “We responded immediately we were called. We sent two vehicles. We have equipment but there was congestion on the road which slowed down their movement.
“We met the fire burning but I observed that the construction of the building did not follow the guideline. There was no exit route. No fire extinguisher was there. They would have been able to battle the fire if they had extinguishers.”
Ogundipe confirmed that, “Two lives were lost in the fire. We have not detected the cause of the fire.”
Meanwhile, the remains of the victims have deposited at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology morgue, while their mum is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
