**Mourns HID Awolowo
Former presidential candidate, Chris Okotie, has commiserated with the family of late H.I.D Awolowo, passed on last Saturday at the age of 99 at her residence in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Okotie, a reputable man of God in Nigeria, in a press statement issued from his media office in Lagos, described the death of the Awolowo matriarch as loss of a jewel of inestimable value to the nation.

He further described the deceased as a great role model to Nigerian women, especially those in public office.

“If you are a woman in public office, or you are aspiring to be one, HID’s legacy is the one to look up to. She stood solidly behind her venerable husband, the late great sage, Obafemi Awolowo throughout his eventful, sometimes turbulent political career,” Okotie said in the statement.

He urged her survivors to take solace in the fact that the legacy of the Awo family is fully appreciated by Nigerians across the ethnic, political and religious divide.

“Awolowo was my late dad’s friend all through his life. My dad was the prison officer in charge of the prison in Calabar where Awo was serving his jail term for treasonable felony during the Tafawa Balewa administration in 1964. So, by the death of his wife, we lost a great family friend. May the Lord take her soul,” Okotie noted.

Meanwhile, the man of God felicitates with Muslims on the Eid-el-Kabir feast, urging them to promote peace throughout the nation.

His words, “All true Muslims in this country must reject the hate messages of those who peddle violence and destruction of innocent souls in the name of religion.”

Okotie appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he noted, is a fervent Muslim, to lead by example by promoting peace, unity and stability across the nation.

“Nigerians expect justice, equity and fair play from the APC government, even as we insist that there must be no sacred cows in the on-going war against corruption. Whoever is found culpable must face the wrath of the law. “There can be no peace without justice,” he added.
