There are strong indications that former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, may not achieve his dream of flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the December 5 governorship election in the state.
Recall that the APC, on Wednesday, cancelled results of the primary held on Tuesday, which produced Sylva as winner. The party said the election was marred by irregularities.
From information making the rounds, the party leadership may not back Sylva’s ambition because of his case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier urged his party to field candidates that have no issues with any anti-graft agency for positions and this may force the APC to dump Sylva and possibly support Timi Alaibe, a former MD of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
On Tuesday, Sylva reportedly aired his frustration over the way the party seems to have forgotten how he laboured for the party during 2015 general elections.
The EFCC has already filed a fresh suit against Sylva after Justice AR Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja had quashed the N19 billion suit levelled against the former governor in July 2015.
