A lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ishola Akeem Shokunle from Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1 has come hard on corrupt public office holders, saying that any public officer that is guilty of corruption should be executed.
He said; ‘I support total or absolute punishment for corrupt public office holders, it is Sharia Law. If it is the best position that people canvass, we should go for it, corrupt public officers should be killed.’
Speaking in a recent interview, Shokunle said that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government would continue from where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stopped and that if the APC stops tomorrow, another party would take over from there.
“It might even be the PDP that would take over again. We have made progress as a people and there is stability in the system, Ibo, Yoruba and Hausa are still living together,” he said.
The lawmaker however, said that he wouldn’t want to score President Muhammadu Buhari low so far because of the population of the country, adding that the president is only trying to play his own role, and that others would play their roles.
“Whatever Buhari says in Abuja, he cannot come to Lagos to monitor it. If we determine that we want change, it could be from the people to the government, it is not from the government alone.
“If the government talks about change and the people refuse, there is nothing the government can do. Electricity has improved since Buhari took over whereas he has not done anything yet.
“It is the power of people, what we want is change. We said he should change the bad situations or else we would change him. Buhari has not done anything on power and there is stability in power, same goes for fuel,” he added.
On the crisis in the Lagos State University (LASU), Hon. Shokunle said that we should start from the roots in looking at the issues, which he said was the reason behind a motion on the school by the assembly.
He stated that one of the causes of the crisis in LASU is because the current Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor John Obafunwa wants to go for a second term and another person wants to occupy the position.
“That is where the problem arose. If they can just make it a 5-year tenure for the VC, the person would just serve once and allow another person to come in. This would bring a lasting solution to the problems,” he said.
