President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to start a process that would try those involved shady oil deals in the country.
The President made this known on Sunday during a meeting with President Xi Jinping of China at the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations in the United States.
He further said that all those who looted Nigeria through various oil deals should get ready for prosecution soon.
According to him, the appointment of Kachikwu Ibe as GMD of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and its subsequent reorganisation is the first step of achieving his goal.
Buhari praised President Xi for his country’s assistance in helping Nigeria curb theft of crude oil. “We know your stand on corruption and we are grateful. Your continued cooperation in curbing oil theft from Nigeria will be appreciated,” Buhari said.
In his remarks, the Chinese leader promised to continue to assist Nigeria in fighting corruption and oil theft.
