Jega Loses Brother To Hajj Tragedy

Brother to the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, Abdulkadir, has been confirmed as one of the Nigerians that died in the Hajj stampede in Mecca, Saudi Arabia last Thursday.

Abdulkadir, who is a judge, was among the two Court of Appeal Justices that lost their lives in the tragedy, which also claimed more than 700 lives.

A statement by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, on Saturday revealed that Justice Abdulkadir Jega and Justice Musa Hassan Alkali were the two Justices that died in the stampede in Mecca.

Justice Mohammed said in his condolence message that the Court of Appeal, the Judiciary and the Federal Republic of Nigeria is shocked, but prays Allah gives families of the victims fortitude to bear the great loss.

Abdulkadir Jega is the Presiding Justice of the Abuja Division of the appellate court, while Justice Musa Hassan Alkali is of the Ilorin Division.
