Thursday, October 1, 2015 has been declared a public holiday by the Federal Government to mark the country’s 55th Independence Day.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, in a statement issued on Monday of behalf of the government, congratulates Nigerians on the celebration.
The statement, signed by the ministry’s Director of Press, Yusuf Isiaka, also thanked Nigerians, both home and abroad, for their support to the government of the day.
The statement asked for more support for President Muhammadu Buhari in taking Nigeria to the promise land. It urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for peace and unity across the country.
Nigeria gained Independence from the British on October 1, 1960.
